XR Funding: SERMAS launches first open call
,The EU-funded SERMAS venture (introduced over here) has launched its first open call. The consortium is looking for new, temporary tech partners who may receive up to 100.000 Euros for an innovative sub-project.
As of September 1st (and until October 31st, 2023) external media innovators, software developers, and tech integrators can take part in the first SERMAS open call – and receive a substantial amount of funding in case their application meets eligibility criteria and passes a collective review.
The call has a strong focus on development. It aims to improve and extend the SERMAS toolkit, which the consortium is building to foster "socially acceptable extended reality models and systems" (hence the acronym). SERMAS combines XR/immersive tech with NLProc, IoT/robotics, and – last but not least – a dash of cognitive science. Open call applicants are asked to present ideas related to modular avatar and 3D object generation, privacy-friendly facial analysis, multilingual speech recognition, artificial empathy, and key actor identification.
For more information, documents, and the application form, head over to the official SERMAS Open Call #1 Landing Page.
On September 5th at 10:00h CEST, SERMAS partner f6s will also host a webinar on the open call, explaining who should apply and why and how.
